Polis, which in Greek means town, is one of the most beautiful towns of Cyprus, near romantic tourist sites, close to where Aphrodite, goddess of love and beauty, used to meet her beloved Adonis and just a 30 minutes drive from Paphos (Pafos) and 45 minutes from Paphos(Pafos) international airport.
Polis Chrysochous is considered as the location for nature lovers and those keen on active holidays, such as hiking, cycling, horse riding, golf, scuba diving and other water sports.
Akamas Peninsula
The Akamas Peninsula is one of the last remaining natural areas on the island protected by UNESCO. You can swim, cycle, walk and explore this very beautiful area of the island and not be disturbed.This is the most westerley point of the island and contains many hundreds of plant species, bird species, mamals and reptiles. During spring the area is ablaze with flowers and the scent of anemones and famous orchids and jasmine of Cyprus are heavy in the air. There are forty-five orchid species on the island including the rare Ophrys Kotschi and many lovely butterflies including the Glaucopsyche Pafos which, as the name
suggests, is the symbol of the region.This beautiful area is known as Aphrodite territory, the playground of the goddess. You can almost feel her presence amid the scent of flora and fauna, lush valleys and the ancient tracks which she and her lovers once took. These tracks are very popular and will help you to discover
the natural beauty of the Akamas Peninsula.
Aphrodite & Adonis Trails
The most popular trails to take are the Aphrodite Trail and Adonis Trails which both start at the Baths of Aphrodite and take approximately 3 hours. Other trails to take are Smigies Trail which starts at Smigies Picnic Site, Pissouromouttis Trail also from the picnic site and Kathikas Trail from Kathika onto Pegeia.
Baths of Aphrodite
The Goddess of Love used to take her bath in a cool pond near Polis. The place is known as "Baths of
Aphrodite" and provides a magnificent view of the Bay of Polis. According to legend, after swimming in the crystal clear waters of the Bay, Aphrodite used to bathe in this pond, surrounded by idyllic landscape with the sweet smelling wild flowers. It is here that she met her beloved Adonis for the first time. Adonis was hunting in the Akamas forest when stoped over the woderful spring to quench his thirst. He was struck by the sight of the naked goddess bathing in the crystal waters. Aphrodite and Adonis were instantly bewitched by each other's extraordinary beauty.
Polis Archeological Museum
If you would like to take in the culture, visit the archaeological museum of Marion- Arsinoe. The museum was erected by the government of Cyprus and with generous financial support of Mr. Nicos Shacolas. It houses an interesting collection of ancient artifacts that have survived through the ages in the Polis area. Objects are chronologically arranged, so as to portray the historical development of the Polis area.

Polis Culture Center
The Polis Culture Center opened its doors to the public on the 15th October 2001. A modern day building with a theatre stage and a seating area with a 400 seater capacity. The Culture center also houses an exhibition area that can host up to 250 people. Cyprus's position is seen as a major attraction for regional travelers being the closest European destination. Church of Agios Andronikos
Church of Agios Andronikos is situated near the traditional square of Polis, with its 16th Century wall - paintings. When Cyprus was under Ottoman occupation the Church was used as a Mosque from 1571, and was not returned to Christian use until 1974.
